Ted Cruz 10 Fast Facts, Biography, Wiki
Cruz married Heidi Nelson on May 27, 2001; they have two daughters, Caroline and Catherine. The couple met when Cruz was working on George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. Heidi took leave from her position as head of the Southwest Region in the Investment Management Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 2016 to support Cruz’s run for president. She previously worked in the White House for Condoleezza Rice and in New York as an investment banker. Cruz lives in River Oaks, Houston. Cruz has joked, “I’m Cuban, Irish, and Italian, and yet somehow I ended up Southern Baptist.” He loves to wear cowboy boots, but he refrained from doing so when arguing before the Rehnquist court. In 2017, someone on Cruz’s Twitter account “liked” a pornographic Twitter post. Shortly thereafter, a Cruz staffer undid the “like”, but not before other Twitter users had taken screenshots of the post and circulated them widely online. Cruz said that the person who “liked” the post was a staffer of his. As of 2018, according to OpenSecrets.org, Cruz’s net worth was more than $3.1 million. On March 8, 2020, Cruz took a temporary leave of absence from his Senate office[where?] due to concerns about his contact with a person infected with COVID-19 at the ACU’s Conservative Political Action Conference. Staying at his home in Texas, he avoided contact with colleagues and constituents for 14 days (believed to be the limit of the virus’s incubation period). Cruz said he had been advised chances of his contracting the virus were very low. Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz was born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Canada, to Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz. At the time of his birth, his parents were working in the oil business. The family eventually moved to the United States. He had two older half-sisters from his father’s previous marriage. He graduated from Second Baptist High School in Houston, as valedictorian in 1988. He then attended Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy in 1992. He won several prestigious debate competitions as a college student.
